# Leaderboard

### What is GnoSwap Leaderboard?

The GnoSwap Leaderboard is a point-based scoring system designed to recognize users' activity and contributions to the GnoSwap Protocol. Users earn points by performing core actions on GnoSwap, such as staking positions, delegating GNS, and swapping. The point accumulation system is designed to reflect engagement within the platform but does not guarantee rewards or benefits.

GnoSwap is committed to transparency and fairness, with the implementation of the platform being open-source and the point distribution on the Leaderboard fully transparent to ensure accountability in the scoring system.

### Rounds

The Leaderboard runs in **rounds**, each with a fixed start and end time. Points are counted separately for each round, so every round starts from zero. Once a round ends, its points and ranking are finalized, and you can still look up the results of past rounds on the Leaderboard. GnoSwap team accounts are excluded from ranking.

### Point Criteria

Points are measured in **GNOT**, not USD, so they don't change with the dollar price. Values are priced with the [TWAP](/references/twap.md) of the tokens involved, so short-term price spikes do not affect them.

* **Position Value:** The value of the tokens in your position, priced at the 24-hour TWAP at the start of each hour. The width of the price range does not matter: the same value kept in range for the same time earns the same points.
* **Swap Router Fees:** The [Swap Router Fee](/core-concepts/fees.md#protocol-fees) paid on each swap, priced at the 24-hour TWAP at the time of the swap.

### Time Bonus

Points from staked positions and delegated GNS are multiplied by a **time bonus** based on **how long you have held them**. Each staked position and each delegation is counted separately from the moment it was made, and unstaking a position resets its progress.

A newly staked position **does not earn points for the first 5 days**. Keep your position staked to reach a higher time bonus.

Your holding time carries over between rounds and includes time before the leaderboard started. Only points reset each round.

### Swap Point Caps

To reward long-term participation over short-term trading volume, swap points are limited by 2 caps:

1. **Wallet Cap:** Your swap points cannot exceed `(GNS Delegation Points × 3) + (Position Staking Points × 1)` earned in the same round. Without position staking or GNS delegation points, swaps do not earn points.
2. **Global Cap:** If the swap points of all users combined exceed the position staking and GNS delegation points of all users combined, every user's swap points are scaled down by the same ratio. During the round the ratio is provisional; it is set when the round ends.

Assume a user did the following during a round:

* Staked a position worth **1,000 GNOT** 12 days ago, which stayed in range for 1 day
* Delegated **10,000 GNS** (GNS price: 0.25 GNOT) 3 days ago and kept it for 1 day
* Paid **2 GNOT** in Swap Router Fees on eligible swaps
* Joined GnoSwap through a referral link

Then, the points are calculated as:

Position Staking Points = 1,000 × 1 × 1.5 × 0.003 = 4.5
GNS Delegation Points   = (10,000 × 0.25) × 1 × 1 × 0.003 = 7.5
Swap Points             = 2 × 5 = 10
  Wallet Cap            = (7.5 × 3) + (4.5 × 1) = 27 → not reached
Referral Points         = 10 × 10% = 1
Total Points            = 4.5 + 7.5 + 10 + 1 = 23
```

This example assumes the Global Cap is not reached.

**How often is the Leaderboard updated?**

Points on the GnoSwap Leaderboard are updated every 10 minutes. Points for the current hour are **provisional** and are finalized once the hour closes, so they may change slightly before then.

### Referral Rewards

Earn additional points for every user you help onboard to GnoSwap. Both you and the new user will receive a 10% bonus based on **the swap points earned by the new user** after the [Swap Point Caps](#swap-point-caps) are applied. Referral bonuses are not subject to the caps.

Share your unique invite link, which is available in the Leaderboard menu. You will automatically be registered as the referrer once the new user completes an on-chain transaction on GnoSwap using your link.

### Ranking

Users are ranked by their total points in each round, which is the sum of position staking, GNS delegation, swap, and referral points. Users with the same total points share the same rank.
